It's a Sad, Sad Day

As some of you may know, we have been the proud host family of a sweet little mama bird and 4 little robin eggs. The bird built a trailor trash nest right outside our bedroom window, pretty low to the ground. She used toilet paper, Jason's hair, and a lot of string that got tangled all around our tree. Sure, it wasn't the prettiest nest in the world, but it was fun for us and the kids to see her sitting out there, even during all the rain and hurricane winds we've had. She has been a very dedicated mama bird for the past couple weeks, and we have been anxiously awaiting the hatching of her babies. Well, the happy moment came yesterday when one egg finally hatched and that cute little guy was peeking out of the nest. The other three eggs were still in tact but would be hatching soon. Jason was like a proud dad, finding worms for the mom to give the baby and hanging them on the nest for her. Well, as soon as we woke up today, we went to the window to see if any other eggs had hatched, and to our great dismay, the nest was laying on the ground and all the eggs were smashed! It appears that our devil cat, Freddy, Satan with fur, had pulled the nest down via the string and ate the baby! Jason was very upset by the whole thing, and we were very worried about telling Isaac. He took the sad news much better than he took yesterday's loss by Big Brown in the Bellmont Stakes (he was inconsolable when that poor horse lost). Jason, on the other hand, is still suffering. And what about the devil cat? Well, don't be surprised if he mysteriously disappears sometime in the next few days!

So, how much did Isaac lose on Big Brown? You should have told him that lots of horses win the first two races and then lose the Belmont. Oh well, better to learn your lessons when you are four. By the time he's 21, he could really make some money.

That is the saddest story. I was telling Ammon about it and said, "That is so sad, huh." He just looked at me and said, "That's the circle of life, Sarah." How cold hearted is that? I'm sorry for your loss! :)
